Elementary School
Kindergarten - 5th Grade
St. Augustine Preparatory School uses the Core Knowledge Sequence as the principal curricular guide for grades Pre-K3 through Eighth. Developed by the Core Knowledge Foundation, this sequence offers a content-rich framework outlining what students should learn in each subject at every grade level. Its sequential approach ensures a coherent progression of knowledge, helping students build a strong academic foundation year after year.
Within Elementary School, Kindergarten through 5th grade, students engage deeply with a broad range of subjects through this curriculum. In First Grade, they begin studying major world religions, fostering early cultural and spiritual awareness. Second graders explore the timeless stories of Greek mythology, bringing ancient tales to life through storytelling and discussion. In Third Grade, students study the life and work of artist Henri Matisse and apply his techniques to create their own art. By Fifth Grade, they are immersed in the richness of the Renaissance, examining its art, music, and literature to gain a deeper understanding of this pivotal period in history.

In Mathematics, the curriculum is structured in such a way that students entering Middle School have been prepared with a strong foundation in the skills necessary to succeed in math at those grade levels.

By the end of the Elementary program, students have acquired a wide-ranging body of knowledge and skills—an essential foundation that prepares them for the rigor and depth of the college-preparatory middle and high school years.

In addition to core subjects such as History, Math, Science, English, and Spanish our students also have Physical Education, Art, Religion, Music, and Nicaraguan History.
The Elementary School schedule also accommodates Exploration Time. Exploration Time is a daily period where students engage in personalized learning, social-emotional development, and creative projects. Activities like Amplify Reading, Genius Hour, Makerspace, and Pod meetings empower students to follow their interests and develop essential skills. Students also attend their weekly grade mass during this time.
