School History

St Augustine Preparatory School is a private, Catholic, co-educational, college preparatory school founded in 2001 by three Catholic lay professionals. The founders were inspired by the life of St. Augustine of Hippo, the School’s patron saint. They currently serve as the Headmaster, Elementary School Principal and the Director of Finance.

The mission of the founders was to create an educational community where its members would seek together, through faith and reason, knowledge of themselves, of the world and of God. In order to engage students in this mission, the school would provide them with a challenging and well-integrated educational program that would foster their physical, intellectual, moral and spiritual development as they prepare for further academic pursuits and their future lives. The ideal St. Augustine graduate would be a young person who thinks with clarity, acts with integrity, and loves with generosity.

In August of 2001, St. Augustine opened its doors to 75 students in Pre-Kinder to Fourth Grade in rented facilities in the heart of Managua. As enrolment increased, the school saw the need to build its own campus. In January of 2007, about 350 students relocated to brand new facilities on a ten-acre property in a residential area of Managua.

In 2007, the initial facilities included seven academic buildings, one administrative building and outdoor areas for sports and recreation. By 2012, the indoor facilities included five elementary and five secondary school buildings. By the beginning of its 15th school year, the campus has expanded to include two PK-3 classrooms, six secondary school buildings with a secondary school office, and a multipurpose building with a covered athletic area, an auditorium and a full kitchen with seating area for use as a cafeteria.

St. Augustine Preparatory School’s facilities include 33 classrooms, a joint art and music room, a science lab, two teacher planning rooms, a secondary school office, student services office, an all-purpose room, a chapel and a school library. The administrative building houses the administrative offices, reception area, infirmary, the cashier and accounting. The outdoor facilities include two playgrounds, two basketball courts, a soccer field and two snack bars and lounge areas.

In the spring of 2010, the school started graduating its seniors and celebrates their wonderful college placement results. Fifteen years after its founding, the school has 85 graduates and six senior classes. Members of our last five graduating classes have been accepted into 97 colleges and received offers of over $15 million (U.S. Dollars) in financial aid and scholarship money.
